Who are we? We are a group of Alpha Chi Omega alumni of all ages that are always looking for new sisters to join our group. The Board of the Nu Nu chapter meets every other month to coordinate the business (and fun) that may come before our chapter. Why join an AXΩ Alumnae Chapter? Alumnae women often ask, "Why should I join and pay dues to my local alumnae chapter? Sororities are just for college." Au contraire! While your experience began in college and brought you into the group, getting involved in the local alumnae chapter provides you with an instant group of sisters who have similar experiences in their past and offers you a network to rely on during life's ups and downs. It's true - the benefits of sisterhood change over a woman's lifetime. A landmark study from University of California at Los Angeles recently brought to light just how important friends are to women. We have all heard that the human response to stress is "fight or flight". But a group of women at UCLA have found that this model is based on studying men. Women actually have a different response to stress, "tend or befriend." When women are stressed, they care for family members and gather with other women. This behavior is due to the hormone oxytocin, which is enhanced by estrogen but reduced by testosterone. Studies have shown for years that women's friendships are important to their emotional and physical well-being. Getting involved in the alumnae group will help you to create new bonds, meet new groups of women and provide you with numerous opportunities to spend time with other women, increasing your oxytocin and reducing stress and illness. Paying your dues to the alumnae chapter provides funding for these opportunities to meet and spend time with sisters. Additionally, your dues support our local Nu Nu scholarship, enhancing the future education of local Alpha Chi's. Since the inception of our scholarship, Nu Nu has given out thousands of dollars to AXΩ women in pursuit of undergraduate and graduate degrees. Education not only benefits Nu Nu and Alpha Chi as organizations, it enriches the lives of our members and our communities. Finally, your dues continue to contribute to the overall Alpha Chi Omega organization. Each year, Alpha Chi Omega is supported by collegiates and alumnae with annual dues. Through our dues, we ensure the success and longevity of our fraternity for the future and for our legacies. We hope each one of you will decide to join and support our chapter. |
